How do Japanese people learn KANJI Characters (Complex Japanese)?

Education at Elementary School

During six years in elementary school (from age 6 to 12), Japanese children learn more than 1,000 KANJI characters.

For the 1st grade at elementary school, they learn 80 basic Kanji which are often seen in your daily life.

They are taught each Kanji one by one, about what it implies, how to read, how to draw in order etc.

This YouTube has been prepared by one of our close friends. It is spoken in Japanese, but it is very well developed and helpful for you to learn the basic 80 Kanji characters. Examples of Kanji

As you can see below, some kanji characters are easy to understand, while some are not.

Use of Textbooks and Handwriting Practice Book

Some Kanji characters are developed from the actual image. For example, 山 means a mountain which is similar to the shape of a mountain.

Some of textbooks contain colorful pictures attractive to children and easy-to-understand practice sentences.

Also, it is popular for children to practice writing Kanji characters with a handwriting practice book.
